Enjoy over 15 miles of ATV trail through the Chippewa County Forest with hills, valleys and challenging terrain of the trail, which were created by the action of glaciers, many thousands of years ago. The Chippewa County ATV Trail is normally open to ATV riding from May 1st to November 15th of each year. Be cautious, as you never know what's around the next corner, or over the next hill, on this two-way trail!
Please observe all Chippewa County ATV Laws and stay on designated trails and routes. Riders who cannot stay on designated trail and routes are not welcome here. Penalties for violations relating to ATV operation are between $100.00 and $500.00.

Duncan Creek Parkway Trail
A five mile paved loop through Chippewa Falls ideal for biking and in-line skating. This trail connects to the Old Abe State Trail northeast of County Highway I. Portions of this trail are shared with motor vehicle traffic.
Hickory Ridge
This off road mountain biking trail is 14.2 km in length and winds through the quiet and scenic oak and aspen forest and consists of 3 challenging loops. Located in northern Chippewa County in the County Forest the trail begins at the parking lot off of 225th Ave. (Bob Lake Rd).

Old Abe State Trail
The Old Abe State Trail is a paved 19.5-mile abandoned railroad grade connecting two State Parks, from Chippewa Falls to Cornell. This old railroad grade has been developed into a multi-use trail for bicyclists, snowmobilers, hikers, horseback riders and in-line skaters.
Begin your trail experience at either the trail head on 97th Avenue (junction of Hwy S & Hwy O), in Cornell at the Mill Yard Park, or at the Town Hall parking lot in Jim Falls. The Old Abe State Trail connects with the Duncan Creek Trail northeast of County Highway I.
State trail passes are required for all individuals over 16, who are biking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing or in-line skating. Self registration passes available at the trailheads in Cornell at the Millyard Park, and at Lake Wissota on 97th Ave. In Chippewa Falls passes are available at the Chippewa Falls Visitor Center, 10 S. Bridge St., and at Spring Street Sports, 12 W. Spring Street. 2011 pricing: $20 for annual passes and $4 for daily passes and are valid on all Wisconsin State Trails (prices are subject to change).

This state park located on the north shore of Lake Wissota offers over 11 miles of scenic trails that pass along Lake Wissota’s shoreline. Although the trails are not developed for biking, bikes are permitted on all but three of the trails. A State Park sticker is required for entrance into the park.

River Road Trail
There are two separate trails through rolling terrain and along the more-gentle grade of the River Road to the parking area and is located along the Chippewa River. The Blue trail winds through some of the more challenging terrain with steeper downhill and uphill grades. The trailhead is located 2.2 miles north of Cornell on County Road CC on 239th Avenue.

Hay Meadow Trail
A 22 mile equestrian trail system and trailheads developed by the Chippewa Valley Trailriders and the Chippewa County Forest and Parks Department for equestrian use. There are two trailheads located in the forest with gravel parking, toilet facilities, fire pits and tie lines. Hay Meadow #2 is located one mile north of Bob Lake Road and Hay Meadow #3 is located one mile further north than #2. The equestrian trails wind through hardwood poplar forests. The rolling glacial moraine in the area offers constant changes in terrain and landscape. Riders will pass many lakes, ponds, and woodland streams on these scenic trails. It is recommended that you bring drinking water for yourself and your animals.

The landscape of Chippewa Falls and Chippewa County varies greatly from the rolling hills of the Chippewa Moraine in the north to the flat farmlands in the south. This landscape variety provides for a diversity of forest types, plant cover, water bodies and wildlife populations. Chippewa County is blessed with a wide variety of hunting opportunities, including: whitetail deer, bear, turkeys, pheasants, ruffed grouse, geese, ducks, rabbits and squirrels.”
Chippewa County has over 46,000 acres of lands open to the public for hunting. The largest tract of public lands, approximately 32,000 acres, is contained in the Chippewa County Forest. Other properties with lands open to public hunting include the Chippewa Moraine Unit, the Tom Lawin Wildlife Area, scattered state fishery area lands along trout streams, and private lands enrolled in either the Forest Crop Law or Managed Forest Law.

Lake Wissota State Park

Chippewa County offers snowmobile enthusiasts nearly 500 miles of snowmobile trails to ride on. The variety of landscapes that the trails cover is what makes them so fun and exciting. While riding our trails check out the glacial formations, rolling hills, and the beautiful wooded forests. This trail system travels through Chippewa County and connects with many other county trails with the opportunity to travel by snowmobile statewide. The Chippewa Valley Snowmobile Organization maintain and groom the trail system and keep the trails in excellent riding condition during the snowmobile season.
