Fishing

Chippewa County has 449 lakes totaling 20,027 acres and ranging from 1 to 6,300 acres. Most lakes are small, unnamed pothole lakes located in the scenic moraine area in the northern part of the county. Many smaller lakes do not support a substantial fishery but offer solitude and serenity for those wanting to get away from the crowds. For a complete listing of all lakes and rivers with a detailed description and map, visit Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources

Chippewa County also provides 81 miles of trout fishing opportunities in 24 classified trout streams, most of which are class I trout waters. Trout populations have good to excellent reproduction, thus no trout stocking is conducted in streams.

For fishing rules and regulations visit the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for answers about resident and non-resident registrations, age requirements, safety tips and more.
